초등학교 입학 전후 아동의 생활시간량의 변화: 어머니의 취업지위와 거주지역에 따른 차이

Abstract

본 연구는 초등학교 입학 전후 아동의 생활시간과 그 변화를 파악하고, 어머니의 취업지위와 거주지역에 따라 차이가 있는지 살펴보는 것을 목적으로 한다. 이를 위해 한국아동패널 7차년도와 8차년도 자료를 이용하였고, 아동 1,254명의 주중 일상을 분석한 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 초등학교 입학 전후로 야간수면, 개인유지활동, 보육･교육기관에서 보낸 시간은 감소하였고 개별 돌봄･교육활동, 실내외놀이, 미디어 이용 시간은 증가하였다. 둘째, 아동이 보육･교육기관, 개별 돌봄･교육활동, 실외놀이에 보낸 시간의 변화량은 어머니의 취업지위에 따라 차이가 있었다. 셋째, 아동이 개인유지활동, 보육･교육기관, 개별 돌봄･교육활동, 실내놀이에 보낸 시간의 변화량은 거주지역에 따라 차이가 있었다. 본 연구결과는 초등학교 전이기 아동의 일상에 대한 심층적인 이해를 돕고, 부모교육 및 늘봄학교 확대시행과 관련된 시사점을 제공했다는 의의가 있다.

This study examines how children spend their time before and after entering elementary school and whether this varies according to maternal employment status and residential area. These questions were addressed using the seventh and eighth waves of the Panel Study on Korean Children (N = 1,254) and by analyzing children’s time use on weekdays. We found that during the transition to elementary school, children spent less time sleeping, on self-care, and at childcare centers/schools, while spending more time on individual care/educational activities, indoor and outdoor play, and media use. We also noted significant variations in the changing patterns of time spent in childcare centers/schools and on individual care/educational activities and outdoor play based on maternal employment status, as well as in time spent on self-care, at childcare centers/schools, and on individual care/educational activities and indoor play based on residential area. Our findings provide a better understanding of children’s daily lives during their transition to elementary school and have implications for parenting and Neulbom after-school programs.
