dc.description.abstract Panel Study on Korean Children (PSKC) 2016 is conducted to investigate the trajectory of Korean children’s life since birth; the research is a continuous follow-up study that builds up the data to comprehend the process of children’s development and their upbringing environments. It aims to provide implications for the policy design by identifying the characteristics of childrearing environment systems such as parent, family, institution and child support policy. PSKC 2016 targets 1,598 households participated in 2015 investigation. The followings are some outcomes from our research. First, 88.2% of household panels were nuclear families consist of parents and children with average income of 462,990,000won per month; additionally, 97.4% of the children were enrolled in public elementary schools, 96.1% were using private after-school programs such as Hakwon(learning academies). Second, children’s mean score of self-esteem was 3.45, perception of general happiness 3.21, and pro-school attitude 3.21 out of 5. The average hour of watching TV was 1 hour on weekdays and 2.19 Third, regarding the environment for children’ growing, 56.1% of the children had their own bedroom, 43.9% possessed pets, and 13.5% received an allowance regularly. The mean score on the quality of home environment test was 47.55 out of 59, and 20.4% of the households are at risk in therms of the home environment. According to the implications from the results of the investigation, we suggested several issues for policies related to improving school system, supporting children considering the characteristics of their parents, suggesting a new paragraph for the fertility policy, and utilizing community resources. -
