This research is the 5th year research of the , with an objective to provide measures to support child care for multi-cultural families among vulnerable households, in line with the government-led projects. For this, literature research and analysis of relevant data, interviews of the mothers of multi-cultural families were carried out and advisory meetings with experts and a Teachers Council were held. In addition, a survey on 530 mothers of multi-cultural families, 428 mothers of non-multi-cultural families whose children attend kindergartens and nursery schools was carried out to understand the child care environment and level of care as well as the current utilization of the child care institutions and the demand for them. With the aforementioned methods, the following child care support system for multi-cultural families is proposed: Individual kindergartens and nurseries need to provide an environment for kids to grow and live a harmonious life without bias and conflict between multi-cultural and non-multi-cultural families through multi-culture understanding education programs customized for 3 to 5-year-olds. Moreover, joint programs with multi-cultural and non-multi-cultural parents should be held, while tailored support to enhance the capacity of the parents according to family type should be strengthened. We need to seek measures to improve training systems for child care institution teachers to better understand multi-culture, build on expertise and to link and utilize multi-cultural institutions and experts. At the same time, if we set up a cooperative network focusing on multi-cultural child care centers, a more efficient and systematic multi-cultural child care support will be provided.
