Korea Institute of Child Care and Education(KICCE) has been conducting various researches related to parent education. From this year on, the institute will conduct a series of four pilot research projects for parents who have wanted to participate in parent education but have not been able to participate in. Parent education pilot projects will continue for single parent and remarried parents for next year, grandparents who care their grandchildren and parents who do not live with their family members for the year after next year, and parents of children with disability and adapted children for 2011. Current parent education programs have been conducted mainly for mothers who do not have regular jobs. Hence, it has not been easy for mothers and fathers have regular jobs to participate in parent education. This year’s pilot research project provided customized programs for fathers and parents who work mutually. In order to invite as many as different types of parents, we provided parent education program at camping site, kindergarten, childcare center, and church at weekday nights and weekend day. As a result, dual-income parents and fathers with young children who participated in the pilot project showed positive effects on the fear of parenting and interest of parenting have positive effects. However, the result of effectiveness of parenting has not been improved after taking our pilot project. This parent education pilot project presents some policy implications. First, the number of parent education participants was 5~6. Second, we used Parent Education Manual developed by the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family and KICCE (2017). Third, fathers have enjoyed conversation about parenting. Fourth, more than 5 times of parent education will be better. Fifth, it is very hard to invite the parents who work regularly.
There are three outcomes expected to be followed as consequences of parent education. Fi`rst, good parent education programs will contribute to increase democratic communication. Second, family-centered culture will be disseminated. Third, it will contribute to praise diversity in our society.
